Wilmington Recreation Department

Fishing Derby Winners The Wilmington Recreation Department held its annual Fishing Derby at Silver Lake on Saturday, June 4. Wilmington youth and non-professional adults were invited to test their luck and show off their fishing skills. This year, all fishing was done from the shore, as no boats were allowed.

Prizes were awarded in the Bass and Non-Bass contests. Dylan Needham, Nicholas Kakleas and Nick Noel tied for the largest bass in the under 17 category while Dan Hope was the solo winner in this age group for the largest non-bass catching a Horned Pout.

Rounding out the day, Lizette Tavares represented the over 18 age category with the winning non-bass catch reeling in a Blue Gill.

The Recreation Department would like to thank Jim Buckley for supervising this event, Bill Ross for capturing it on film, and Al Knod and the members of the Massachusetts Angler Education Program for their assistance and expertise. Thanks to Wilmington Pet Supply for their generous bait donation. An event of this magnitude would not be possible without the considerable help of volunteers and we offer all our sincere thanks
