The inaugural Waterways Ireland Erne International Pike Fishing Classic got off to a flying start today on the waters of Lough Erne in County Fermanagh. Seventy anglers lined the banks of the Erne and cast their lines, hoping to reel in a monster pike to give them a chance of winning the top prize of £3,000 or one of the many other cash prizes on offer this weekend.

The first day of the three day festival, was a shore event with anglers positioned at the fishing stands around Enniskillen, Co Fermanagh. Today and Sunday the action moves to the water with a boat fishing event taking place on Lough Erne from Portora gates to Carrybridge and Innismore Viaduct.

The winner of Friday’s bank angling competition was Barry Dickson from Ballinamallard, Co Fermanagh who caught the heaviest fish which weighed in at 16lb 4oz. The second prize went to Harold Beresford from Ennskillen with a 15lb 6oz catch.

The event is organised by the Erne Anglers Angling Club with support from Waterways Ireland, Fermanagh District Council and DCAL Inland Fisheries.
