Washington fishing show

Washington fishing show Feb. 2-5 A free fishing and hunting show is scheduled for Feb. 2-5 at the Washington Crown Center off I-70 in Washington County.

Sponsored by the Washington County Sportsmen and Conservation League, it will feature dozens of vendors and exhibits plus talks at nearby Gander Mountain’s “lodge” by walleye pro Keith Eshbaugh, New River guide John Lewis on smallmouth, H S Strut’s Ron Toth on turkey hunting and vintage lure expert Grumpy Ash.

A children’s trout pond, Casting Kids contest and turkey calling competition also are scheduled. The seminar will be held during mall hours, with free admission and parking.

Boat Show set
The Pittsburgh Boat Show will be held Friday through Sunday and Feb. 3-5 at the David L. Lawrence Convention Center, Downtown. The expo will feature new boats, antique boats, boating safety classes vendor displays and contests.

Bass class
Though the bassin’ pros could learn a few things from local anglers, CITGO Bassmaster University is coming to the Radisson Hotel in Green Tree, Feb. 11-12.

A dozen different workshops will feature 1998 Classic champ Denny Brauer, BASS Angler of the Year Gary Klein, 14-time Classic contender Zell Rowland and pros Rich Tauber, Tony Bean and Mike DelVisco.

Extra helpings of trout
A number of area lakes recently received extra helpings of trout from over-stock at the Tylersville hatchery. They include Raccoon Lake, Lower Hereford Manor Lake and Upper, Middle and Lower Deer Lakes. In addition, unallocated trout from Mansfield University were planted in December in Laurel Hill Lake, Canonsburg Lake, Lower Twin Lake, Donegal Lake, Lake Rowena, Glade Run Lake and Dunlap Creek Lake.

Skill survey - Educators who teach fishing skills are reminded that the Pennsylvania Fish and Boat Commission’s on-line survey ends Jan. 31.

By completing the survey, educators can help the commission assess needs and create a directory of program providers. Survey participants will receive a 2006 Pennsylvania League of Angling Youth (PLAY) patch, featuring a yellow perch.
