Lexington’s Robert Walser reeled in almost 35 pounds of bass out of the Connecticut River near Hartford to win the three-day Wal-Mart Bass Fishing League All-American Tournament.
Walser took home a $140,000 top prize.
Walser was one of 96 contestants who qualified for the All-American by earning points in local weekend tournaments and then finishing in the top six in a regional tournament. About 33,000 weekend fishermen competed on the local level for a chance to enter the tournament.
Walser will also be offered a spot on the FLW Outdoor professional fishing tour.
Walser’s catch of 15 fish, weighing 34 pounds, 10 ounces, was 2 pounds, 3 ounces more than second-place finisher Chad Dorland of Dunnellton, Fla.
William Redman of Sciotoville, Ohio, took home a $60,000 check Friday for winning the Co-angler Division with nine fish weighing 14 pounds, 4 ounces.
