Lake Fishing

Despite the cold weather, anglers are catching smallmouth bass and walleye.

Chatuge: Anglers are catching spotted bass and largemouth bass on minnows and black and chrome Challenger crankbaits. Most of the activity is around High Bridge and to a lesser extent around Ledford Chapel. For more information, call 389-6465.

Fontana: Smallmouth bass have been fairly active this week, hitting crankbaits cast to points and rocky banks. The bass are at 25 feet. Some breaking activity reported during the warm periods of the day. Walleye are hitting Rapala Ice Jigs and small spoons at depths of 65 feet. For more information, call 498-2211 or 488-6423.

James: Smallmouth bass are hitting minnows fished off points. Limited walleye activity trolling with spoons in main lake channels.

Julian: Largemouth bass are hitting plastic worms, jerkbaits and spinnerbaits. Catfish are hitting nightcrawlers, commercial catfish bait and chicken livers. Tilapia are hitting bread and corn. For more information, call David Blynt at 684-0376.
