Goldonna’s Trey Morgan caught only four fish in the Louisiana Division of the Wal-Mart Bass Fishing League Saturday, but they were four very good ones.
The tournament, which was held out of Grand Ecore on the Red River, was the fourth of five regular-season stops in the Louisiana division.
Morgan finished the day with a 14-pound, 13-ounce stringer, which was 1 pound, 8 ounces better than Shreveport’s Marvin Ettredge and Glenn Robertson, who finished tied for second with 13 pounds, 5 ounces.
On the tour since 2002, Morgan collected a $3,425 paycheck for his efforts. It was his third tournament victory in five years and Saturday’s winnings give him almost $95,000 in earnings in 50 tournament appearances.Ball’s Jimmy Greer finished 10th with a five-fish stringer, weighing 8-12, to collect a $400 paycheck.
A total of 16 Central Louisiana anglers competed on the Boater’s side while 10 local anglers fished on the co-angler side. In Bass Fishing League competition, boaters supply the boat and compete from the front deck against other boaters. Co-anglers compete from the back deck against other co-anglers.
Pineville’s Chris Chenevert and Montgomery’s Anthony Graves were the only two Cenla anglers to finish in the Top 10 on the non-boater’s side.
Chenevert, who caught a five-fish stringer that weighed 7-10, finished second and collected a $713 check while Graves brought two fish weighing 5-1 to finish eighth and collect a $242 paycheck.
Brett Sellers of Baton Rouge caught the tournament’s biggest bass — a 5.04-pound lunker — while co-angler Gary Mumphrey of Gonzales caught one weighing in at 4-12.

The top 40 boaters and 40 co-anglers in each of the Bass Fishing League’s 28 divisions at the end of the season advance to a no-entry-fee Regional Championship where boaters fish for a new Ranger boat and a Chevy truck and co-anglers fish for a new Ranger boat.
Seven regional championships will each send six boaters and six co-anglers to the no-entry-fee 2008 Wal-Mart Bass Fishing League All-American presented by Chevy, which features a $1 million purse and a top award of $140,000 in the Boater Division and $70,000 in the Co-angler Division.
Anglers who compete in all five regular-season events within a division but do not advance to a Regional Championship are eligible to compete in the Chevy Wild Card, which will also send six boaters and six co-anglers to the All-American for a total of 48 boaters and 48 co-anglers advancing through Bass Fishing League competition.
The winning boater and winning co-angler at the All-American advance to the no-entry-fee $2 million 2008 Forrest Wood Cup. This event, featuring a top award of $1 million, is the most lucrative tournament in all of competitive bass fishing.
In all, the Bass Fishing League offers weekend anglers the opportunity to qualify for three no-entry-fee championships with total cash awards exceeding $3 million. Plus, the top 40 boaters and 40 co-anglers from each BFL division may move up to the Stren Series for 2008 while All-American champions have the option to advance directly to the Wal-Mart FLW Tour.
A two-day Super Tournament, the division’s fifth and final event, will be held on Atchafalaya Basin in Morgan City on Sept. 22-23.
Following the end of regular-season competition, the top 40 boaters and 40 co-anglers in the Louisiana Division will advance to the Wright Patman Lake Regional Championship in Texarkana, Texas, Oct. 25-27 and will compete against anglers from the Arkie, Cowboy and Okie divisions for an All-American berth.
