ATHENSĀ
Lake Athens is about five feet low and clear. Water temp is in the upper 40s.
Fishing was fairly light around the holidays. Bass have been good to four pound on jigs and Texas rig worms; best bite has been under overcast skies. Some schooling activity reported in the shallows, according to Peter Gould at Lake Athens Marina.
Crappie are good on minnows soaked around deep brush near the dam. No report on catfish.
CEDAR CREEK
All fishing is slow due to low water. Not much traffic on the water, according to Dean Janke at Sunny Glen Resort.
RICHLAND CHAMBERS
The lake is 11 feet low and clear. Water temp is in the upper 40s.
Launching access is limited due to low water. Jug liners are picking up some quality blues using cut shad in 15-18 feet of water. Rod and reelers are finding limits of blues and channels on windy banks and in standing timber 10-15 feet deep, mainly on punch bait.
rappie and black bass are slow. White bass are fair on spoons bounced on main lake points and humps down to 28 feet.
PALESTINE
Lake Palestine is 5 1/2 feet low and clear. Water temp is in the upper 40s.
Black bass are fair to five pounds on Carolina rigs and Rat-L-Traps fished on main lake points with plenty of brush. Fishing guide Ricky Vandergriff says some of the deeper boat docks are holding some quality fish, as well.
Jug liners are picking up some quality blues to 15 pounds using cut bait. Rod and reelers are faring best on punch bait in standing timber and stumps, 4-12 feet deep.
Crappie are fair at the Highway 155 bridge crossing and around brush lining the Neches.
NACOGDOCHES
Lake Nacogdoches is about 2 1/2 feet low and clear. Water temp is in the upper 40s.
Bass fishing has been slow since the front. A few small fish reported on spoons and Carolina rigs worked on brushy, main lake points. No fish over the slot reported.
Crappie are fair on minnows soaked around deep brush near the dam.
TOLEDO BEND
T-Bend is 7 1/2 feet low and clear. Water temp is in the upper 40s.
Catfish are good to 40 pounds on trotlines; cut bait is producing consistently good results, according to Charlie Shively at Bill’s Landing. Rod and reelers are making some decent hauls on blue and channel cat. Best results are coming on fresh shad heads.
Bass are fair on Carolina rigs, jigs and crankbaits worked along underwater sloughs, drainages and points. A few fish also reported on jigging spoons bounced on points and humps.
Crappie are fair on minnows and jigs. Best results are coming on river ledges in 18-24 feet of water.
Shively said duck hunters are reporting limits up north.
FORK
Lake Fork is about 6 1/2 feet low and clear. Water temp is in the upper 40s.
Chris Parker at the Minnow Bucket said bass are good to nine pounds on Rat-L-Traps and wacky worms fished from the outside grass lines to eight feet. The better quality fish are coming from 18-25 feet of water, mostly on jigging spoons and Carolina rigs.
Crappie are excellent. Plenty of limits reported over main lake points in 27-34 feet of water; the fish are holding right on bottom.
Catfish are good to seven pounds under cormorant roosts, mostly on chicken gizzards.
SAM RAYBURN
Sam Rayburn is two feet low and clear. Water temp is in the upper 40s.
Crappie anglers are reporting excellent results on minnows soaked along the edges of the Angelina River north and south of the Highway 103 bridge
