Meeting to discuss salmon drift net fishing described as useless May 30, 2:31 pm
A meeting between fishing representatives and an independent group set up by government to review the future of commercial salmon fishing has been described by fishermen as “useless”.
The three-man group was formed by the Marine Minister to assess the implications of the cessation of drift net fishing and the impact the move would have on those involved.
However the Irish Fish Producers Organisation claims the terms of reference given to the group mean there can be no meaningful discussions.
IFPO Chair Loran O Cinneide says it’s clear the Marine Minister has already decided to ban drift net fishing outright
