Noyo Fishing Report: Bottom fishing good and crab season opens – It has been a relatively quiet time in the harbor the last few weeks. Salmon season ended and crab season has not begun. Things are ramping up now with the opening of crab season this Saturday.
Noyo charter boat captains are looking forward to the increased business starting this weekend and are reporting full trips on Saturday and Sunday.
Last Sunday, Captain Tim Gillespie had a full boat for bottom fishing and limits all around. The biggest lingcod brought in for the day was an 18-pounder caught off the Mendocino headlands. He and his All Aboard Adventures crew are excited to get out and start pulling crab pots. They will be running crabbing-only trips this weekend and Saturday is already full.
Telestar Captain Randy Thornton said that all seven fishermen on board Sunday limited with a great selection of bottom fish, including lingcod, vermillion, blues, gophers, chinas and cabazon. The Telestar crew will be running bottom fishing and crab combo trips starting Saturday.
Gear up fishermen. The weather is nice and the crab plentiful this season
