NE CAPE FEAR RIVER

Fishing has been consistent over the past week with lots of fish being caught. Kings, grouper, dolphin, wahoo and false albacore are being caught in the offshore waters with spots, blues, drum, flounder, pompano and whiting from the surf, piers and inshore water.

NE CAPE FEAR RIVER

AT CASTLE HAYNE

Jamie Smith reports that bream are being caught on crickets and red worms. Crappie are being caught on small minnows and red worms. Catfish are being caught on night crawlers, crappie minnows, chicken livers and cut bait with some fish in the 25- to 40-pound range. Source: County Line Bait and Tackle.

TOPSAIL ISLAND

Captain Chris Medlin reports that plenty of red drum are being caught on the sound side. Surf fishermen report catches of black drum, red drum and some spots. Spanish are being caught along the beach, while gray trout are being caught at the inshore reefs and ledges. Kings are being caught at 23-mile rock. Source: East Coast Sports.

WRIGHTSVILLE BEACH

Gene Pridgen reports that puppy drum, flounder and speckled trout are being caught in the waterway and creeks. Spots are being caught in the surf and off the piers. Bluefish in the 5-pound range and Spanish mackerel are being caught along the beach. Kings are being caught starting at the 15-mile range. Gulf Stream fishing is producing catches of wahoo and tuna along with an occasional small dolphin. Source: Tex’s Tackle.

CAROLINA/KURE BEACH

Dennis Barbour reports that speckled trout and flounder are being caught in the river, waterway and inlets. Citation-sized pompano have been caught from the surf along with some whiting and bluefish. Pier fishermen report catches of spots. Gray trout are being caught at John’s Creek and the holes off Fort Fisher. Gulf Stream fishing is producing catches of wahoo and small dolphin, while bottom fishermen report catches of grouper and snapper. Source: Island Tackle and Hardware.

OFFSHORE WILMINGTON

Captain Lloyd Eastlack reports that Gulf Stream fishing is producing catches of wahoo, blackfin tuna and dolphin. Most fish are being found between the Same Ole and north of Swansboro Hole. Grouper and snapper are being caught in the 18-35 mile range with good catches south of WR-4 and offshore of 23-Mile Rock. Kings are being caught from the 10-mile areas on out, with good catches in the Cape Fear River also. Source: Bug-Em Bait Company.

LOWER BRUNSWICK COUNTY

Jim Ingle reports that pompano and whiting are being in the surf. Spanish are being caught along the beach out to a few miles. Kings are being caught from the beach out to Frying Pan Tower.
