Minister seeks stronger laws against illegal fishing
The Federal Fisheries Minister will seek stronger laws against fishing piracy at the first international ministerial meeting on illegal fishing in Paris today.
Senator Ian Macdonald wants delegates to allow countries to take action against rogue fishing boats that are breaking an international fishing treaty.
He says six ships are fishing illegally in protected waters near Australia, and authorities can’t take action under international law.
