At the moment I have a 12.5m technium XT. This is the model before the XT-A and XT-B which I think is about 8 years old. Its strong but I never fish it past about 10.5m as its so heavy.

Im looking to upgrade and keep the Technium as a margin pole. I’d love to spend more for a better quality pole but as im lucky to get out 20 times a year if that, I think 300-350 is the max ill get away with .

I dont need an out an out carp cruncher just as much of an all rounder as possible at this price. Fishing predominantly commies for silvers/carp to 6lb.

I have considered the new technium as ive been happy with my current pole and the top kits I have now *might* fit the new model.

I really like the reviews and sound of the MAP and have seen it for 300. Ive also considered models by Garbolino, Sensas and the Daiwa TDXR1.

Any opinions or views gratefully welcomed

thanks

Robin

Robin you do realise that if you get 10 replies to your post, each one will probably recommend a different pole.
Maybe best to find a shop with a pole alley and have a hold various ones within your budget. At the moment I’m using a MAP TKS 201 which is basically the same as the 101, I’ve had no problems with it and find it good to use. However I’ve only used a pole for around 6 months and after waggler fishing they all feel heavy to me

I reckon availability of spares should be high on your list of priorities though.

Yes doogie im sure I’ll get contradictory views. But where i live there isnt going to be the chance to try many poles in this price range. Certainly I will try and do this. The thing that puts me off sensas and garbolino is what are the spares like. I know with a lower price tks pole this shouldnt be too much of an issue imo.ta.id=”msg”>

The fact that the whole of the tks 01 range are good sellers should tell you they are a good pole. Some people have had problems getting spare sections, but this seems to be for the 501 and up. Imho this is only because map did not realise how well they would sell, so it took a long time to catch up with demand. I would not think you will have the same problem with the lower poles in the range.id=”msg”>

At this stage the map seems favourite for my needs. Ive also just read about the preston pro type 260 at 360. A bit above my price range but a better supplied kit package. Anyone seen one in the flesh ?id=”msg”>

Well, I went to fishing republic and saw tony. I tried a few of the poles mentioned and a few that weren’t. I looked at the map 201, shimano, browning all round and maver retribution. In the end the maver grim reaper felt “right” to me and without paying a lot more seemed more than competitive. So the Reaper it is. Thanks to all.id=”msg”>

Thanks oakey. Im impressed with it in the shop. I was willing and prepared to buy a more expensive pole in the end because I bought it interest free, but I honestly felt it felt lighter and certainly better balanced than some of the others I mentioned. Time will tell. Just need to get on the bank soon !id=”msg”>

I’ll probably be fishing the angel or aldin grange mostly so I shouldnt need 14.5m plus. If I do go to sessay ill just have to adapt. Maybe fish maple (?) Where I can reach the slope in the middle ok. I’ll certainly be able to fish about 2m + further out than Ive been able in the past.id=”msg”>
