Last chance of a decent Smoothound before my 2 weeks in Cornwall …
Fished 1700 - 2300 HW2001
Lovely calm hot sunny evening, dead calm sea NO weed
Took a mate along to show him my secret spot and his face was a picture when we got out of the car to see the “cliffs” in the distance … he was relieved to see we were going a bit closer which was out of view !
Anyway, a 1lb of rag & dozen frozen peelers later - I had bugger all few mackerel and baby bass on feathers going for fresh bait but no Smoothounds …
My mate - jammy sod - had this beauty, he had a few other smaller ones as well - all on fresh peeler, did not realise fish were so fussy, we were casting same distance, same rigs, same tactics - only difference was the peeler …. ah bugger
Superb fight, watching his fin going up and down in the water, took loads of line, kicked like mad in the surf and really strong - did make up for not having one myself …. nearly ….
