PF , MDC To Host Kids Fishing Derby
School is out for the summer – in the old days that meant one thing for kids – fishing. The Northeast Missouri Chapter of Pheasants Forever is joining with the Missouri Department of Conservation to give area youths a chance to enjoy the sport right here in Memphis.
The two organizations will be hosting a fishing derby on Saturday, June 4 from 10:00 a.m. to noon at the Memphis City Water Plant. The event is open to kids age 15 and under.
Organizer Doug Rainey indicated that the local PF group would be providing hot dogs and refreshments for the kids and will also have a number of prizes to give away for such honors as the biggest fish and the smallest fish caught. The sponsors will also be providing bait and some tackle will be available but they ask the children to bring their own fishing poles if possible.
MDC will be stocking the pond with bluegill the morning before the event, insuring the kids will have plenty of fish to chase in addition to the pond’s existing fishery of bass, catfish, bluegill and even a few walleye.
