Offshore

The party boat, Capt. John, had a good mixed-bag trip recently. Skipper Tony Langston ran 70 miles southeast of Galveston and put a group of 69 anglers on a box topped with 75 red snapper, five king mackerel, 58 vermilion snapper, four ling to 40 pounds, and two blackfin tuna to 25 pounds.

Beachfront

Weekend conditions favored wading for the first time in several weeks. Early-morning waders near San Luis Pass reported scattered good catches of trout on soft plastics, spoons, slow-sinking plugs and live shrimp.

Surfside Jetty held good water clarity and rock walkers had fair success on speckled trout, Spanish mackerel and panfish, reported Jetty Park Store. Live shrimp was effective.

Galveston Bay complex

Speckled trout were reliable over deeper reefs in East Bay, reported guide Jim West. Slicks also were holding fish. Soft plastics were effective. Waders had fair success using topwater plugs and slow-sinking plugs during early-morning hours.

Mixed schools of small specks and sand trout were reported working under birds in lower West Bay. The Galveston Causeway was fair for panfish and gafftop catfish for boaters using dead bait.

Lake Conroe

White bass and hybrid bass were good, reported guide Butch Terpe. Fish were taking small spoons trolled behind deep-diving crankbaits over humps in 10- to 20-foot water. Crappie remained fair on live shiner minnows over brush piles in 15- to 20-foot water. Bream were good on nightcrawlers and meal worms in grassy coves.

Lake Fork

Black bass were fair to good, reported Lake Fork Marina. Soft-plastic jerk baits were effective early and late along edges of main-lake grass beds. Crankbaits caught bass along channel dropoffs in 8- to 16-foot water. Topwater lures drew scattered strikes at dawn and dusk. Crappie were steady on small jigs under main-lake bridges and over brush piles in 15- to 20-foot water.
