FISHING REPORT
Conroe
Windy weather and the rough conditions it generated have limited areas anglers have been able to fish over the past several days. But those able to find areas out of the wind have found cooperative fish.
Guide Butch Terpe reported finding good success with crappie by fishing live minnows suspended beneath a cork and worked around cover in 2-4 feet of water.
Largemouth bass fishing continues strong in the shallows, too. Several anglers fishing weekend tourna- ments landed five-bass strings with fish averaging 4-5 pounds.
ShareLunker
Lake Alan Henry, a 2,800-acre reservoir near Lubbock, coughed up two ShareLunker entries in two days late this past week.
Last Friday, an angler targeting crappie and fishing with a live minnows in 7-8 feet of water hooked and landed a huge 14.78-pound largemouth. The fish was 0.16 of a pound shy of the lake record largemouth.
Saturday, an angler working a spinnerbait in deep water (30 feet) hooked and landed a 13.04-pound largemouth, just meeting the 13-pound minimum for entry into the ShareLunker program.
Matagorda
Much of the open areas have been muddied by the recent strong wind. But shorelines of West and East bays have held stretches of fishable water, reported guide Mark Talasek. Waders throwing soft-plastic lures have managed a few trout and redfish. But live bait fished under a popping cork has been the most productive tactic, accounting for mixed strings of trout, redfish, drum and the occasional flounder.
Galveston Surf
Wind switched to the north during the day on Monday, but the results of strong southerly and westerly wind over previous days left the surf chopped and very sandy.
The warming currents, however, kept fishing fairly productive. Anglers on the 61st Street Fishing Pier decked a mix of whiting, gafftop and bonnethead sharks, pier staff reported.
