FISHING REPORT

Offshore

Moderate east/southeast wind improved conditions for small-boat traffic in the open gulf. Sea was in the three-foot range at the 60-mile buoy south of Freeport, smaller than predicted. Fishing was good, reported guide Mike Segall. Recent trips produced limits of red snapper to 10, plus limits of king mackerel and occasional ling.

Several tripletails were caught on live shrimp along weed line.

Inshore fishing was good for small sharks and occasional bull redfish.

Beachfront

Surf was small and sandy to sandy-green, but southeast wind may improve water clarity during the early week.

Tides were running at near-normal levels and inshore readings were in the upper 70s.

Surfside Jetty was fair for scattered speckled trout and sand trout on live bait, reported Jetty Park Store.

Sheepshead, occasional redfish and small sharks also were caught by rock walkers.

Galveston Bay complex

Shift to southeast wind upgraded prospects, reported West Bay Marina. Main-bay reefs and slicks were fair for boaters using live shrimp and soft plastics.

Scattered birds were working portions of lower West Bay, upper East Bay and upper Trinity Bay.

Lake Fork

Black bass were fair, reported Lake Fork Marina. Fish were taking soft-plastic jerk baits along edge of main-lake grass beds.

Scattered fish were active early and late on topwater lures. Crappie remained fair on small tube jigs under bridges in 15- to 20-foot water.

Lake Livingston

Black bass were fair to good in slowly rising water.

Spinnerbaits and shallow-running crankbaits were effective along dropoffs and around flooded brush.

White bass were reliable on spoons over main-lake structure. Crappie were fair on live shiner minnows over brush in creeks.

Houston County Reservoir

Black bass were fair, reported Crockett Family Resort Marina. Spinnerbaits, topwater lures and soft frogs were effective along edge of grass.

Deeper fish in channels were taking crankbaits. Jigging spoons were good for white bass over main-lake sandbars in 15-20-foot water.

Crappie were fair on live minnows over brush piles.
