Govt plays down lobster fishing bans
ABC Online – Australia
The Western Australia Government has rejected concerns that a ban on rock lobster fishing at south-western surf breaks could spread to other parts of the state.
Boats more than eight-metres long have been banned from certain surf breaks, amid concern that bait in craypots might attract sharks and endanger surfers.
Rock lobster fishermen are considering blockading the Fremantle Port to protest against the ban, saying they are unfair.
Fisheries Minister Kim Chance says they stem from long running concerns that are restricted to the south-west.
