Fishing WRIGHTSVILLE BEACH

Inshore fishing has been red hot over the past week. Plenty of flounder up to 7 pounds have been caught, while speckled trout up to 6 pounds have been caught. Kings have been caught in good numbers starting in the 10-mile range.
NE CAPE FEAR RIVER AT
CASTLE HAYNE
Jamie Smith reports that fishing has been good over the past week. Bream and shell-cracker are being caught are being caught on crickets and red worms. Catfish in the 5- to 15-pound range are being caught on large minnows, night crawlers and live bream. Source: County Line Bait and Tackle.
WRIGHTSVILLE BEACH
Tex Grissom reports that puppy drum, flounder and speckled trout are being caught in the waterway, around the inlets and in the creeks. Surf fishing is producing spots, Virginia mullet, pompano and bluefish. The piers are producing catches of spots, blues and flounder. Kings are being caught in the 8-15 mile range. Red and gag grouper are being caught in the 20-40 mile range. Source: Tex’s Tackle.
TOPSAIL ISLAND
Doug Medlin reports that puppy drum and black drum are being caught on the sound side and in the ocean. Speckled trout are also showing up in decent numbers. Surf fishermen report catches of red drum, spots, sea mullet, black drum and pompano. The piers are producing catches of spots and sea mullet. Gray trout are being caught at the artificial reefs and at some of the ledges. Kings and false albacore are being caught at E Buoy and at Christmas Rock. Source: East Coast Sports.
CAROLINA/KURE BEACH
Dennis Barbour reports that speckled trout up to six pounds and flounder over seven pounds are being caught in the river, waterway and Snow’s Cut. Spots have been caught off the piers and some drum, spots and whiting are being caught in the surf. Gray trout are being caught at the inshore wrecks and rocky areas. OFFSHORE WILMINGTON
Captain Lloyd Eastlack reports that Gulf Stream fishing is producing some wahoo along with a few yellowfin tuna and small dolphin. Kings are running in the 8-15 pound range and are being caught in the 10-20 mile range. There have even been reports of a few wahoo mixed in with the kings. Source: Bug-Em Bait Company.
LOWER BRUNSWICK COUNTY
Hunter McCray reports that puppy drum, spots, whiting, bluefish and flounder are being caught from the surf and off the piers. Trout, puppy drum and flounder are being caught in the waterway, creeks and in the river. Kings are being caught from just off the beach out to the Tower area.
