Crew from suspected illegal fishing boat detained in Darwin
The 18 Chinese crew from one of the largest suspected illegal fishing boats found in Australian waters are being held at the Immigration Department’s detention facility in Darwin.
A department spokesman says there are no plans to transfer the group to the Baxter detention centre in South Australia while the investigation into illegal fishing is continuing.
The boat was found with 639 tonnes of fish on board and fisheries authorities suspect some of it may have been caught in Australian waters.
