Fatal trawler sinking

Fatal trawler sinking probe launched

An official inquiry into the sinking of a trawler in the Irish Sea last week with the loss of two crew members got under way today.

Marine accident investigators travelled to the fishing port of Ardglass, Co Down, from Southampton to carry out the probe.

At the same time, police divers resumed their search for the body of fisherman Conor Bogues, 26, from Ballynahinch, Co Down, who has been missing since the trawler Greenhill went down after hitting rocks close to the fishing port last Thursday.

The body of his close friend, Donall Gibson, 22, was recovered by the divers on Sunday.

A third man, the skipper of the vessel, survived the sinking and was taken to hospital.

Mr Gibson, from the village of Saul, outside Downpatrick, Co Down, is to be buried after a funeral service in the town tomorrow.

The police divers returned to resume their search for Mr Bogues in the waters around the wreck after being forced to abandon the operation on Monday because of bad weather
