Daily fishing report Tampa – All the fishing news still seems to be in the red.
Points as far north as the Gandy Bridge have felt the suffocating grip of the toxic Red Tide. Floating fish kills from the Sunshine Skyway north to the Gandy Bridge have shut down any fishing opportunities in the central portion of Tampa Bay. The Weedon Island area on Thursday was a floating graveyard. The smell of rotting fish has made it tough, even on the pleasure boaters.
The good news is that the northern part of Tampa Bay has been spared nearly all the harsh effects of Red Tide. Bait is still plentiful and good size. The redfish are scattered, but we have been seeing good numbers. The snook bite is still strong – they tend to bite better in the afternoon.
For the most part, areas not affected by the tide have been productive.
If Hurricane Dennis stays far enough west, the easterly wind flow created could help push Red Tide out of the bay. Heavy rains could help disburse the Red Tide.
