Daily fishing report St. Petersburg’s – Brett Norris, Alan Marsh and Chris Wiggins of Team Rock Bottom amassed 363 points to win the 22nd annual Charlie Rice Old Salt Fishing Foundation Inshore/Offshore Tournament Sunday at Gators on the Pass in Treasure Island.
Fishing from a 23-foot bay boat, the winners targeted mangrove islands and sandy shorelines between Pinellas Point and the Gandy Bridge. Their catch included two snook (35 and 34 inches), two redfish (30 and 29 inches) and two 19-inch sheepshead. They used pinfish and scaled sardines for the snook and redfish and fiddler crabs for the sheepshead.
Eric Bachnik of Team Shelby’s Dream was second with 362 points; Dave Metheny of Team Kenner finished third with 360.
Jean Gifford of Team Kenner topped the women’s division. Her team caught a 35-inch snook, a 27-inch redfish and a 19-inch sheepshead. Beth Maisano of Team Insta-Gator was second and Elaine Wahonsky, third.
Marlin Rice of Team Insta-Gator won the youth division and Brian Bower of Team Plan B won the wild-card division with a 33-inch redfish.
The tournament allowed competitors to fish from 12:01 a.m. Saturday until 3 p.m. Sunday. Organizers canceled the offshore division because of rough seas caused by Hurricane Rita. The event’s photo-release format judged catches by lengths on standardized measuring boards.
