Fishing vessel from Sakhalin detained for crab poaching
PETROPAVLOVSK-KAMCHATSKY, June 14 (Itar-Tass) – The Zhonkiyer fishing ship registered at the Sakhalin port of Nevelsk has been detained by border guards for illegal crab catching in the Sea of Okhotsk.
A fine worth 2.3 million roubles has been imposed on the vessel’s captain, the press service of the North Eastern coast guard department of Russia told Itar-Tass on Tuesday.
The Zhonkiyer was spotted in the fishing zone by the Argal patrol boat on June 12. During a search border guards found some 13 tonnes of concealed frozen cooked opilio crab. The perpetrators will have to pay a three-million rouble compensation to the state for the damage
