Country Debates Fishing Accord With European Union

An European Union (EU) delegation, to arrive today in the country, meets on Monday, in Luanda, with the Angolan Minister of Fisheries, Salomão Xirimbimbi, to resume negotitations based in an agreement which allows or not 67 European boats to fish in Angolan waters.

It is the second attempt to reach an agreement with the Angolan side, after the first discussion held in December 2004 failed to attain a result in favor of the EU, since Angola demands supervision of the boats – mostly from Spanish – something opposed by the EU.
