A popular spring trout site in Cook County has been moved because of a winter fish kill.
Horsetail will be stocked for spring trout in place of Sag Quarry East, which was hit by a winter fish kill.
Spring trout season opens April 5 and stocking was set to begin this week at many sites.
Forest Preserve District of Cook County fisheries biologist Steve Silic said they made the temporary call for this year.In terms of handling the crowds for spring trout, Sag Quarry East is better suited.
Other than Sag Quarry East, Silic has not seen indications of any major kills at other forest preserve fishing lakes in Cook County.
The FPDCC will also have spring trout fishing at Axehead, Belleau and Green lakes. Green is new this year.
