BLACK BAYOU

BLACK BAYOU — Bream fishing has been good with lots of spawning fish caught on crickets and worms. Crappie are scattered and are fair around deeper holes on shiners and jigs. Bass are slow.

BLACK LAKE — Bass fishing has been good on watermelon and pumpkin seed lizards. The bream are bedded and hitting worms and crickets. Crappie are fair in the channel. Catfishing is good on trotlines and yo-yos baited with cold worms, shiners and crawfish.

LAKE BRUIN — Bass fishing has been good on lizards and worms. Bream are bedded and hitting worms and crickets. Catfish and crappie are fair on shiners.

CANEY LAKE — Bass are fair with mostly slot fish caught on Carolina-rigged finesse worms and Brush Hogs around brush off the points. Crappie have been biting in 5- to 6-foot water with some out to 15 feet deep on shiners and jigs. Best catches have been made early mornings and late afternoons.

CHENIERE LAKE — The bream are spawning and lots are being caught on worms and crickets on shallow beds. Bass are fair on Rogues and topwater lures. Crappie are scattered.

LAKE CLAIBORNE — Bass fishing has been fair with better catches made at night on black worms and spinnerbaits around the lighted piers. Bream are spawning with a good many bluegills and chinquapins caught on worms, crickets and baby crawfish. Catfishing is fair on trotlines and stump hooks baited with gold fish, liver or cheese. Stripers have slowed but best fishing times are early and late in the day on shiny lures. Crappie are scattered with some caught from 5 feet deep to 20 feet on jigs and shiners around brush and at night around lighted piers on shiners.

LAKE D’ARBONNE — Bream fishing is good all over the lake with bedded bluegills and chinquapins biting worms and crickets. Crappie have slowed but best catches have been made on fish suspended 4 feet deep in 15-foot water. Catfishing continues to be quite good on cold worms fished on the flats and off the banks. Bass are fair early mornings on topwaters and worms fished around the base of trees.

LAKE LAFOURCHE — Crappie fishing has been fair to good on shiners and jigs fished around deep brush. Bream are bedded and hitting worms and crickets. Bass are slow to fair.

OUACHITA RIVER — The river is at pool stage but is rather muddy. Best bets for bass have been in the sloughs and river lakes on white/chartreuse spinnerbaits with topwaters taking some fish early mornings. Crappie are best in river lakes and the bayou on shiners and jigs. Bream are bedded with best catches made in the river lakes and up the bayou on worms and crickets.

LAKE POVERTY POINT — Crappie fishing has been good around brush at the south end of the lake on shiners and jigs. Bream have bedded and are biting worms and crickets. Bass are fair on crankbaits.

LAKE ST. JOHN — Catfish and bream are good on cold worms and crickets. Crappie and bass are slow to fair.

LAKE YUCATAN — No report this week.
