Awesome Catch and Release Snook Fishing

We have had beautiful weather in Southwest Florida! Highs in the 80s most days and lows in the 60s have pushed our water temps into the low to mid 70s which makes for great fishing. Snook fishing has been very good with live bait, with quality fish being landed most days. We have seen good numbers of fish in the 8-12lb range, and some bigger. Our snook population is still recovering from the cold water temperatures in 2010 which devastated the population. Fish and Wildlife opened the season on snook after a 3 year closure last fall. In my opinion, this was a huge mistake. While I encourage the catch and release of all species, I do not kill any snook on my charters. Instead, I take a quick picture with the fish and release them. A vast majority of the top guides in the area are not allowing the harvest of snook, which will help to protect the population. My customers have been very supportive of this; a photo with your fish will last longer than a fish sandwich.

The redfishing has not been quite as good as last year, but I expect that to change after the new moon next week. I have been doing best with redfish in northern Pine Island Sound, which is a long run on a half day charter. We have caught some nice reds on 6 and 8 hour charters which allows us to travel further north into Pine Island Sound.

I am starting to see a few tarpon showing up in Pine Island Sound. The night fishing should be starting to get good at the bridges as well. In just a few weeks, we will begin to target tarpon almost exclusively. I am almost fully booked for May, but I have plenty of dates open in June. If you are looking to come down in May I still have the 17th,18th and 21st-23rd open.

If you had a good time fishing with me, please go to my Google page and leave an “excellent” review- it helps out a lot!

I am looking forward to fishing with you all soon!
