No wonder it costs so much. My daughter works in a chemist and got a new family join the pratice last monday. 2 parents and 4 kids. They been to doctors every day and have had 9 free perscriptions in a week.
They have not paid a penny into the system.

I not prejudging anyone just stating facts mate.
And as far as i no if you just moved to this country from another eu country i dont think they would of paid any tax into the system, but sorry if i am wrong.

if they have moved into the area, whether from here or another country, they are claiming what they are entitled to. your wife should not be discussing customers requests. I get free prescriptions even when I worked,my wife still works and gets free prescriptions.id=”msg”>

In the chemists last week and spent 32 on four prescriptions including betablockers, ace-inhibitors, etc.
Also there were two young women and a small child. They didn’t have to pay anything and could only just about confirm their adress when the assisatnt asked. While they were waiting they were chatting away to each other in a foreign (probably east euro) tongue. Both our prescriptions were brought out together, mine was a single small bag, they had three bagfuls.
I paid for my stuff, and have also paid in nearly forty years of NI contributions and the rest, they couldn’t speak our language so I’d guess they’ve not paid in a lot into the system and paid nothing on receipt.
Something’s very wrong here.

Free prescriptions are usually based on their medical condition, that you would have no knowledge of. I get free prescriptions here in France because I am diabetic.
They may be using a European Health card. If that is the case then the NHS can claim the costs back from their home country (although they tend not to bother)My wife and daughter will be visiting UK next week and will be carrying their French health card in case they need any treatment.
They may have lived in the UK for years and they or their husbands may have been paying into the system for years.
I wouldn’t take much notice of their language difficulties. I know many Brits who have lived here in France for 10 years or more that have great trouble speaking French.
There may be lots of other reasons why they qualify for free prescriptions but I doubt that it is because they are foreign.

They were late teens or twenty at most, how do you know they have husbands?
There may well be lots of reasons why they qualify for free prescriptions but if I had to put money on it I’d wager that they’re unemployed and receive a lot of other benefits.

If you’re paying 32 for a prescription I’d recommend an NHS prescription prepayment card. 104 for the year and can be paid in monthly instalments. Saved me a fortune over the year for back medsid=”msg”>

What is the situation in Scotland and Wales as regards prescriptions?

Aren’t they free to all?

Why?

Sure they use a few more drugs than a few thousand foreigners.

United Kingdom? My arse!
