Fishing is getting better at Beaver Lake. Early and late there’s a topwater bass bite and during the day, drop-shot or Carolina rigs are working well. A few stripers are being caught but a big cold blast is needed to send them to the river arms. Catfish are biting live bait on jug lines. Hawg [...]

THE Fisheries Division of the Ministry of Agriculture is pushing to have fishing licences suspended for five years to allow for the resuscitation of the island’s over-fished reef areas.
The five-year interval, according to seamanship instructor Hartnel Murphy, would result in a gradual decrease in the number of fishermen, thereby allowing new stock to breed.

A combination of continued warm weather and deer hunting season has kept the fishing pressure and catch down on the Umpqua River system.
